—A Charon Tank driver just as an enemy in front of it suddenly vanishes

The Charon Tank is the monster tank of the European Alliance. It is able to quickly neutralize any unit on the battlefield with a single shot.

Official description[]

The Charon Tank is the pinnacle of European technology. Its neutron cannon, a larger, more powerful version of the one used by Chrono Legionnaires, has the ability to instantly erase any unit targeted by it from this time and space. This allows the tank to immediately remove threats without any chance of retaliation. The sheer amount of energy used for this unstoppable weapon means that the Charon has a long cool down, making it vulnerable to enemies after it has fired.

This weapon is not only technologically a fearsome weapon, but psychologically as well. Soldiers and tank pilots find the prospect of being flung into a completely different dimension a far more terrifying fate than mere death. The Charon's neutron cannon is still rather controversial, but due to lack of evidence to the true fate of this weapon's victims, the tank remains in European arsenals.[1]

Overview[]

The Charon Tank is one of the Euro Alliance's few ways of dealing with Tier 3 tanks, and is undoubtedly one of the most feared vehicles in their arsenal. Upon getting into range of its target, said target is swiftly erased from this plane of existence, whether it be a very unfortunate enemy tank or a nigh-omnipotent and psychotic psychic. Simple on paper, but absolutely terrifying in practice. While the enemy commander often has a few seconds to kill a Chrono Legionnaire before his victim is completely erased from this plane of existence, Charon Tanks give the enemy commander virtually no time to react, making them considerably dangerous and efficient hero hunters considering they aren’t focused down by aircraft.

While indeed a technological and psychological menace on the battlefield, the Neutron Cannon’s long reload time proves to be its downfall. A Charon Tank’s effectiveness drops off as more targets are within its firing range, and while this can be alleviated somewhat by simply building more of them, such is not a very cost-efficient train of thought, especially considering the fact that enemy vehicles faster than it can simply run away. The Charon is also a questionable unit to use when attacking an enemy base, due to its inability to erase structures.

AI behavior[]

Charons controlled by the AI have the following attack patterns:

All difficulties[]

  • 2x targeting vehicles, accompanied by 4 Cavalier Tanks

Medium/Hard[]

  • 1x targeting ore miners or base threats
    • This task force may be accompanied by 1 additional Charon Tank
  • 1x guarding Patriot Missiles or Prism Towers
  • 2x targeting vehicles, accompanied by 2 Mirage Tanks

Hard[]

  • 2x targeting anything, accompanied by 2 Robot Tanks and 2 Mirage Tanks
    • The AI may use Chronoboost on this task force
    • If available, Shadow Ring may also be applied

The AI is not programmed to switch between Charon modes.

Appearances[]

As a token of gratitude for your help in Germany, Siegfried gave us his blueprints for the Charon Tank, which utilizes the most powerful chrono erasure technology with pinpoint accuracy.
—Allied intel during Operation: Sunlight

Act One[]

  • The Charon Tank first appears in Road to Nowhere among enemy teleporting taskforces (except on Casual difficulty).
  • It becomes buildable for the first time in Sunlight.

Act Two[]

  • In Unthinkable, Reality Check and Babel where the player controls Libra, Charon Tank needs to be paid attention to, due to fact that they can kill her in a single shot.
  • In Hamartia, if the player attempts to use Charon Tank to neutralize Libra, its weapon will be disabled by gravity field when approaching Libra.

Origins[]

  • Due to the Allies losing a large amount of their technology after failing the Antarctic battle, Charon Tank has been locked in The Remnant.
